WINTER Organic Farmers Market
Tasting the Best of the Peak Production Season!

KFBG will organise the growFOOD@home carnival on 1-2 January and 16 January 2011 at KFBG and Central respectively to celebrate the peak organic production season in Hong Kong. The carnival will also mark the opening of the Winter Farmers Markets, which will be held weekly since January 2011. Seasonal crops available at the markets include an amazing diverse range of lettuce, tomatoes, carrot, radish, beetroot, celery, cauliflower and broccoli and many others. All the fresh produces are harvested from local farms and sold directly by organic farmers to consumers.

Local organic food has a much lower food mileage and carbon footprint than any imports. Rejuvenation of organic food farming in Hong Kong is amongst the most effective strategies to combat climate change. It also facilitates organic resource recovery and environmental conservation.

The mild and stable winter of Hong Kong is not only the season for tasting the best of organic favour but also learning how to grow your own food. Apart from shopping at the Winter Farmers Markets, there will be a wide range of fun-filled activities organised at the growFOOD@home carnival, which include ‘Organic Kitchen Show’, ‘Magic Sprouting workshop’, compost-making DIY, herb-tea making demonstration, organic planting workshop, green crafting, plant dyeing and many others.

Visitors will learn how to integrate organic ideas to lives inside out. By shopping at the Winter Farmers Market, you also move a BIG step forward to support local organic farming and combating climate change.
