*OTC@LOHAS kicked start by Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, JP (Permanent Secretary for the Environmenton / Director of Environmental Protection), Ms Elizabeth LAW, MH, JP (Vice-chairman of Environmental Campaign Committee), Ms Mabel Mak (Hon. Secretary and Honorary President of The Hong Kong Federation of Women and the patroness of the One Tonne Challenge animation CD-ROM), Ms Idy Wong (Head of Sustainable Living & Agriculture Department, KFBG) and Dr. Yau Wing Kwong (Chairman of Tai Po Environmental Association) on 20 September 2009. Several Women Organizations had taken the mass of pledge to promote a LOHAS in their community, as well as reducing at least 1 Tonne of CO2 emission annually.
OTC@LOHAS organized by Tai Po Environmental Association, co-organized by Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden and The Federation of Women and sponsored by the Environmental Campaign Committee and the the Environment and Conservation Fund. It aimed at gathering the women's power to promote the Low Carbon Living Style and thus combate against Climate Change. 27 Women's Organization joined the programme. By attending the "LOHAS Low Footprint Ambassador" training workshops, participants would spread the message to their 5 friends and asked for their voluntary participation in expressing Green in their daily life.
One Tonne Challenge started in 2007 which spread the messages of energy saving and reduce CO2 emission among the public. Hong Kong citizen generally aware of the news about Climate Change recently. However, there were still room for us to do more. For example, choose local organic food instead of imported food could help to reduce indirect CO2 emission via food transportation. As women took an important role within a family, so, gathering women's power were efficient enough in spreading Green messages among local cimmunities.
